American destroyer Donald Cook heads for Black Sea

The destroyer may reach the Black Sea next week, representatives of the Pentagon think. It is not clear how long the ship is going to stay there. Donald Cook will take part in the joint military exercises of NATO member states’ navies.

The arrival of the American destroyer is caused by the events in Crimea and is aimed at assuring the USA’s allies that the ‘commitments in the area’ are being fulfilled. Donald Cook is in Spain now. The American destroyer Tuxtun is still in the Black Sea.

The USA sent ‘additional resources’ to the Black Sea, White House Special Assistant to the President Josh Earnest claimed earlier today.  He did not report any details.
