16 people arrested during special operation in Belgium

16 people were arrested in Brussels and in its suburbs during a special operation on November 22, BBC refers to Belgian prosecutor Erik Van der Sipt.

The main Paris Novemebr1 3 terror suspect Salah Abdesalam was not detained. He is still wanted.

The police searched 19 houses in Brussels and Charleroi but did not find any weapons or explosives. One of the detained people was injured in a failed attempt to flee from the police by car.

 

The operations directed against Islamites continue in Brussels. The police have asked mass media not to report any details of the special operations and local citizens should not post information about the places where the police operations are being organized in social networks.

The highest level of terrorism threat (4) will be preserved in Brussels for at least one more day, Belgian PM Charles Michel announced. All the schools, universities and metro will be closed on Monday. The authorities have asked people not to go out without extreme necessity.
