Varlamau overcome in court, injection given

16.20 Sasha Varlamau pleads not guilty. The fashion designer claimed it after all the charges had been pronounced.

The interrogation of Varlamau started after 3 p.m. He began his story from 1998 when the BSU rector, Alyaksandr Kazulin, asked him to cooperate. Varlamau said that he was already well-known in the fashion circles at that time and did not need to build himself up like the prosecutor had claimed.

Varlamau showed a 10-year contract of signed by BSU rector Kazulin in 2001: "BSU renders material assistance to "Sasha Varlamau's Fashion Agency" and allows the agency to use its territories for free". He did not have to pay any rent, Radio Liberty reports referring to Varlamau. But the agency paid for all the household running costs  until 2009 and stopped doing it afterwards.

Varlamau was given some pill during the break.

11.30. Varlamau has been overcome. Doctors have been summoned to give an injection to him. A 20-minute break has been announced, Euroradio journalist Artsyom Martynovich reports from the courtroom.

11.00. No microphones  are being used today and the voices do not carry well. There are over 30 people in the courtroom.

10.25. The hearing has started. It is being held in a smaller courtroom today but Varlamau's cage is bigger. The public prosecutor is pronouncing the charges.

The judge decided to keep Varlamau in custody on Monday. She explained it by the fact that Varlamau's health condition allowed it. However, it was difficult for him to stand in the cage.

The famous fashion designer is accused of major fraud, misappropriation, tax evasion, power abuse and major larceny.

Sasha Varlamau was jailed on May 20, 2011. He was the director of the enterprise "Sasha Varlamau's Fashion Agency", used to head the BSU Youth Fashion Centre, etc.
