KGB spots extremism in photo art works

The Belarus Press Photo 2011 albums confiscated at the Belarusian border last year contain extremist images, according to an experts' commission gathered by State Security Committee (KGB). Photographer Vadzim Zamirouski has received the summons as well, reports Radio Liberty.

The expertise of the confiscated albums was conducted by the employees of Hrodna University and a local ideology official. They noticed "deliberately disstorted facts about the life in Belarus that have nothing to do with the reality" in the photo albums. The expertise described the albums as "actions by citizens aiming to degrade the honour and dignity of the nation". The experts eventually classified this offence as extremism.

Ms Darashkevich, the organizer of Belarus Press Photo contest for Belarusain photographers, does not know which of the photos in the album could qualify for extremism charges. She says the album is a reflection of the events that took place 2010.

The court hearing will take place in the border town of Ashmyany, Hrodna region on April 17. The photographers will appear in court with the status of interested parties.
