Malady Front activist Dubski taken to pretrial detention in Asipovichy

Artsiom Dubski, an activist with Malady Front youth pressure group, has been taken to a pretrial detention in Asipovichy. He is facing criminal charges for evading from limited freedom punishment. Within the next three days, the prosecutor is to decide whether to leave Dubski in detention or free him under a written pledge not to leave the country. On March 3, the town court in Asipovichy closed the criminal case against Artsiom Dubski over material damage during the peaceful resolution of the sides. Right after the hearing, the police took Dubski to a police station for paperwork on another case.

Youth activists held an action in front of the local police station to support their comrade. Some 30 people stood holding hands and portraits of Dubski, slogans "Freedom to Dubski!", and white-red-white flags. They were also chanting "Long Live Belarus!" and "Svaboda to Dubski!".

Artsiom Dubski is one of the Case of 14 defendants. He was sentenced to two years of restricted freedom for taking part in the January 2008 protest of entrerpeneurs. The young man was taken off the train on February 13 while trying to cross the Belarus-Russia border. He had lived in Ukraine in the past several months. In October 2008, he approached the Ukrainian authorities for political asylum but later revoked his request.
