Hugo Chavez accepts referendum defeat
Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez failed to receive backing from his compatriots at the referendum on constitutional amendments. The most controversial proposal was to abolish restrictions on the president's terms in office. 49,29% of voters supported Chavez, while 50,7% voted against the constitutional reform.
