Gazprom reports higher Q2 profit

The Russian gas giant Gazprom has posted a Q2 performance report, citing increased revenues up 9 percent against the same period in 2006 and hitting a total of Rur 386 billion (over $15 billion).
The income from gas sales has enjoyed an average growth of 7 percent, mostly due to gas costs rise for the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (by 35 percent) and in Russia (by 18 percent).

Belarus's Beltransgaz and Ukraine's RosUkrEnergi AG are described as the largest gas buyers from among the former Soviet republics, writes the Moscow-based daily Kommetsant.
