The 30-percent fee on the purchase of foreign currency will not be in effect after February 1 in any case, says Belarus National Bank chair.

Economost Yaraslau Ramanchuk reckons the changes will affect the entire commercial banking sector.

The National Bank asked commercial banks to buy foreign currency higher than selling in an attempt to prevent a black currency market.

Police in Minsk detain two people in Prytycki Street and two more at the Expobel shopping center for illegal foreign currency transactions.

'The airplanes with foreign currency' are approaching Belarus, National Bank told Euroradio.

The fee will be in force until February 1, 2015.

The inflation rate will not go up by 30% (the foreign currency purchase fee), the PM believes.

It has gone up from Br11140 to 11460.

Banks in Minsk are selling US dollars at Br 11260-11280 on Thursday, December 18.
