Expert: Devaluation of Belarus currency has yielded no expected result
The devaluation of Belarus rubel has not brought about the expected result, said Felix Charniauski, the chairman of the Association of Belarusian Banks at the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Belarusian Scientific and Industrial Association. He said that it was expected that after the 20-percent devaluation, commodities at external markets would become cheaper, "and we would be able to sell them immediately, but this has not happened". The expert noted the drop in export volume in January 2009, while "the imports reduced to a lesser degree".
"We need to be pro-active in promoting our products at external markets, to establish trading houses and dealerships", Felix Charniauski said. In his opinion, "there is no harmonic system of the external marketing in Belarus yet", Belapan news agency quoted the expert as saying.
