BAJ administration meets chief ideologist
The administration of the Belarusian Association of Journalists has met a presidential assistant, head of the chief ideology department of the President’s Administration, Usevalad Yancheuski.
The meeting was initiated by the journalists’ organization and lasted for more than an hour. Independent mass media were represented by BAJ chairperson Zhanna Litvina and her deputy Andrei Bastunets.
The main issues of the discussion were the return of the independent press to the state distribution system and the practice of application of the law on prevention of extremism. Accreditation of foreign journalists, searches of March 27, access of journalists to information from official sources, quality of education of Belarusian journalists, regulation of the Internet and correspondence of the Belarusian mass media legislation to international standards were also discussed.
According to Zhanna Litvina, the meeting took place for the first time over the last decade. Journalists were not guaranteed that all their top priority problems would be solved soon but the fact that U.Yancheuski expressed his interest in it arouses hope that there may be some progress.
