Artist Mihail Savitski is dead

Artists say that his death marks the end of the whole epoch. A People's Artist of the USSR and a Hero of Belarus Mihail Savitski died at the age of 88 on the night of November 8. “The Partisan Madonna", “Children of War”, a picture cycle "Figures on the Heart" and other works are among his paintings. The painter had been suffering from an illness for a long time and died in hospital.
The death of Mihail Savitski marks the end of the whole epoch in the Belarusian art.  The senior deputy of the Belarusian Union of Artists Ryhor Sitnitsa has commented on it in an interview with ERB.

Sitnitsa: “He is one of the most outstanding leaders of the epoch that has brought great works to our culture. His death marks another stage in the development of our art. People like him preserved academic traditions. He was a prominent painter”.
The artist will be buried on Wednesday, November 10. A farewell ceremony will begin in the Officers’ House at 10 a.m. Mihail Savitski will be buried at Moscow Cemetery.
