The Investigation Committee has prolonged the investigation of Yury Zaharanka's disappearance until December 24, 2012.

It means that investigators needed for the investigation can be conducted. However, Zaharanka's relatives have not been interrogated about anything since... 1999. Volha Zaharanka, the ex-Minister's wife, told Euroradio.

Lawyer Aleh Vouchak, representing the offended party in court, was also interrogated only in 1999.

He has his own opinion about the reasons why the investigation keeps being prolonged.

Aleh Vouchak: "These cases were sent to the UN Human Rights Committee. If you suspend the case, you will have to give account for it. But what reports can they present? That is why they are going to prolong the investigation until 2015 and to close the case in connection with the time limitation."

Euroradio has found out that 4 (!) investigators worked on Yury Zaharanka's case in the past 13 years. The fifth one is working on it now.

What will happen to Zaharanka's case in 2015?

Aleh Vouchak: "The office of the public prosecutor will have to decide whether it should remain confidential - if the state interests are affected, it may be kept a secret for 20 or 50 years."

General Zaharanka disappearedoin the evening of May 7, 1999. The criminal case was started according to article 101 of the Criminal Code - murder. According to ex-head of detention centre #1 Aleh Alkayeu, Yury Zaharnka was abducted and shot.
