Statkevich’s preventive supervision to last for 8 years (updated)

Mikola Statkevich will be supervised by the police, his wife Maryna Adamovich told Euroradio. It is not clear whether Statkevich’s release means that his conviction has been expunged, she said.

If he commits three administrative violations within a year, the supervision will change. He will be forbidden to leave Minsk and will have to stay at home from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m.  The supervision means that Statkevich’s conviction has not been expunged. He has no right to take part in elections.

Statkevich is the only political prisoner who will be supervised. The other political prisoners released on August 22 will not be put under preventive supervision, Euroradio reported earlier.

Mikola Statkevich and the other five political prisoners were pardoned by the President on Saturday, August 22. He spent 4 years and 8 months behind the bars.
