Poroshenko: Ukraine needs to prepare for constant foreign aggression

Petro Poroshenko made a number of statements during the parade. I particular, he said that Ukrainians had to prepare for constant foreign aggression and live with it.

"Ukraine will always be facing a military threat now. We need to learn to live with it and be ready to protect our country’s independence,” the President noted.

Billions of hryvnas will be spent on arms and military equipment by the end of the year. “A column of new and recently repaired military equipment will leave Kreshchatik and head of the area of the anti-terrorist operation before your very eyes,” President Poroshenko said.

Over 40 billion hryvnas will be spent on rearmament in 2015-2017, he added.

“The events of the last few months were a real warfare. It may be remembered in history like the Patriotic War of 2014. It has become patriotic because everyone has started protecting our Motherland, young and old, it has become the people’s movement,” he said.

The holiday of February 23 will be abolished, Poroshenko announced. “Ukraine will no longer mark the Defender of the Fatherland Day according to the historical calendar of one of our neighbouring states. We will cherish our country’s defenders instead of some other state’s defenders,” UNIAN quotes Petro Poroshenko.
