No oppositionists in Minsk divisional election committees

Minsk authorities have not included any oppositionists in divisional election committees. It means that they want total control over the turnout at the presidential election, coordinators of observation campaign Right of Choice Dzyanis Sadouski told BelaPAN.

There are 717 divisional election committees in Minsk. Three opposition parties sent their representatives there: 62 people from the United Civil Party, 44 – from the BPF Party and seven – from the Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada). The civil association BPF. Renaissance also sent 19 people. None of them has been included in the committees.

The authorities want to control Minsk as a city with the biggest protest potential in the current crisis situation, Sadouski believes. That is why no oppositionists have been included in divisional election committees.

The campaign Right of Choice will send the maximum number of observers to ‘see the real turnout in Minsk and make the information public’, Sadouski added. The turnout will not exceed 30-35% this year, he thinks.

By the way, 32 oppositionists have been included in election committees all over Belarus. It is 0.05% of the whole number of election committee members.

The campaign Right of Choice consists of representatives of the Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada), steering committee for the creation of the party Belarusian Christian Democracy, campaign Tell the Truth, movement For Freedom, BPF Party, Belarusian Greens, independent trade union REP and steering committee  of the Party of Freedom and Progress.
