Information Ministry gets shares in two FM radio stations

The Ministry of Information has acquired shares in two radio stations and one cable TV operator in Belarus, according to Resolution No 794 by the Council of Ministers dated September 30, 2016.

The government has ordered to hand over to the Ministry of Information's operative management the shares in three companies owned by the state-owned Belarusian Radio and TV Transmission Center. The share of Information Ministry in the Belarusian-U.S. joint venture Radio B.A. International will be 34% purchased for $44200. The Ministry will also have 34% in Russkoye Radio (Russian Radio) for BYN367.2) and 29% in Cosmos TV Media for BYN 58.

Effective from October 3, 2016, Belarusian Radio and TV Center merged with Beltelecom, with latter having become the monopoly for terrestrial radio and TV transmissions. According to approximate estimates by the company, around 500 000 people in Belarus continue to use terrestrial TV.
