Dakota to sing in Belarusian for Eurovision qualification

The popular singer has filed her song for the Belarusian qualification of the Eurovision song contest. Dakota will perform her song in the Belarusian language. The text for Dakota's new hit was written by famous poet Hleb Labadzenka. The application deadline for EuroFest was on Tuesday, November 25.
It had remained unknown until the last day if Dakota, one of the favorites, would take part in the qualification contest.

In an interview with the European Radio for Belarus last month, she was complaining about the Belarusian culture officials who deliberately do not support her. At the same time, Dakota, 18 is a truly popular singer with numerous fan-clubs in dozens of cities. However, she was convinced to take part in the Belarusian qualification by her producers and Russia's First Channel with which the singer has a signed contract.

Dakota: “I felt a huge support behind my back and decided to make it a try. The song is almost ready. I will sing it on behalf of all the girls and fiances whose lovers have not returned from war. I composed the music, while the text was written by Belarusian poet Hleb Labadzenka. I added something from myself to his text”.

The Russian producers supported Dakota's idea, while the singer believes the time has to show Europe that we have our native language and beuatiful songs can be sung in this language.

“Last year, I was at Eurovision in Belgrade", recalls Dakota. "While there, I heard a lot of beautiful songs in various languages of the world. The countries were representing their cultures and languages. I felt sorry that Belarusians sang in English all the time”.

This is not the first Belarusian-language song, but fans have not heard any of them yet.

The European Radio for Belarus has learned that Dakota is nearly the only artiste who would like to sing in Belarusian at Eurovision. EuroFest producer Anastasia Tsikhanovich said that the songs in Russian or English were prevailing among the applications.

The list of Dakota's main competitors includes Piotr Yalfimov, Gunesh, Litesound, Volha Plotnikova, Aliaksandr Patlis and others. But her contenders did not use the Belarusian language for their songs.
