Belarus currency earnings to fall by quarter, imports - by third

During the first two months of 2015, the foreign exchange earnings in Belarus totaled 4.85 billion dollars. Compared to the same period last year, it fell by a quarter, BelaPAN reports. In general, the amount of foreign exchange earnings this year fell to its lowest level since 2011.

Reduction of foreign currency earnings at the beginning of this year was due to reduced volume of goods exports. Foreign exchange earnings from exports of Belarus in January-February amounted to 3.76 billion dollars. Compared with the same period in 2014, they decreased by nearly 1.5 billion dollars.

Belarusian exports to Russia experienced a most sharp decline. Based on reports, in the first two months of 2015, the Belarusian foreign exchange earnings from exports of goods and services in Russia decreased by 918.6 million dollars compared to 2014.

Imports into our country also declined. In January-February, Belarus paid for imports 4 billion 312.6 million dollars. This is 33.3% less than the previous year.

Decline in exports, as economists explain, has to do with the issues in the Russian economy. A decline in imports is primarily linked to the limited funding of the companies, decline in industrial production and incomes.
