28 politicians, civil leaders urge Europe to pay attention to Autukhovich's hunger strike

28 Belarus opposition politicians and civil leaders have voiced a demand to release Mikalai Autukhovich, Yury Liavonau and Uladzimir Asipenka -- the entrepreneurs from Vaukavysk. The latter were arrested in early February 2009 on suspicion of arson. Autukhovich has been on a hunger strike behind bars for 90 days.  Belaruspartisan.org reports that former political prisoner Alexander Kozulin passed the appeal to Polish ambassador Genrych Litvin, asking him to familiarize his government and other diplomats from EU member states with the contents of the appeal.

The document says that Autukhovich's life is under threat. Dozens of culture figures, politicians, human rights defenders are ready to prove his innocence but "the government has been ignoring all the demands to meet its obligations to free all the political prisoners". Those who endorsed the appeal hope that EU countries could influence on the Belarusian authorities and save the life of Mikalai Autukhovich.

Among those undersigned are Alexander Kozulin, Enira Branitskaya, Liavon Barshcheuski, Siarhei Parsiukevich, Anatol Libedzka, Viachaslau Siuchyk, Uladzimir Kolas.
