One of the leaders of the Young Front, Zmitser Dashkevich, was detained near the Academy of Sciences on the New Year’s Eve. He was heading to Kastrychnistkaya Square together with activist Pavel Prakapovich by taxi. They wanted to see the New Year in under white-red-white flags. The oppositionists were delivered to Pershamaiski District Department of the Interior, BelaPAN reports.
Dashkevich invited citizens to come to the square at 11.45 p.m. on December 31 and see the New Year in there.
Nevertheless, other activists of the organization came to Kastrychnitskaya Square. They were wearing white-red-white flags on their shoulders and were giving out calendars with the inscription ‘2017 – 500th anniversary of Belarusian Bible’ to the present.
There were about 200 people including a lot of policemen in plain clothes in the square.
Dashkevich and Prakapovich were let off a bit later and returned home, ex-political prisoner Eduard Palchys wrote on Facebook.
