Yerevan protesters demand to cancel last year’s electricity payment rates i

Street protest actions continue in Yerevan. Protesters have a new demand now – they want to cancel the last year’s electricity payment rates increase because ‘the authorities’ decision was not economically justified.’ The news was announced at the mass meeting in Marshal Bagramyan Avenue, UNIAN reports.

The protesters used to demand to cancel the recent increase in the electricity payments rates (by 16%). The increase will result in the increase of prices for the necessities and numerous services, they believe. The Armenian people is ‘in a difficult social and economic situation now’ and citizens have no money to pay more for electricity, they say.

As soon as their demands are fulfilled, they will go home, protesters say.

The police dispersed protesters earlier, hundreds of people were detained. However, people are still present in the streets and squares of the Armenian capital. The protests have reached other cities too.
