Trade between Belarus and EU falls by almost a third

In January-March 2015, Belarus' trade with the EU countries decreased (compared to the same period last year) by 28.9% - down to 3 billion 730.7 million dollars. This is according to the National Statistics Committee of Belarus.

In the first three months of 2015, exports to the EU fell by 23% - down to 2 billion 441.9 million dollars, imports - by 37.9% - down to 1 billion 288.8 million dollars. The surplus amounted to 1 billion 153.1 million dollars, BelaPAN reports.

In a recent interview with the Slovenian newspaper The Slovenia Times, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus, Alena Kupchyna, expressed hope that the EU will contribute to "the strengthening of the economic dimension of our independence through access to the resources of the European financial institutions" as well as support Belarus in joining the World Trade Organization.
