Tor and anonymizers still accessible in Belarus

The document containing the procedure for restricting access to sites was enacted in Belarus on February 26. "Regulations on the access to information resources (their components) located in the World Wide Web" were approved by the Analytical Center at the Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Communications in consultation with the Ministry of Information.

But the law had no description of the blocking procedure. The new procedure specified how the access to sites will be denied.

The decree also stipulates that access may be limited to the proxy servers and Tor, which allow to avoid the ban. Many were quick to announce that they have been restricted access to. But on the morning of February 26, Tor-browser, proxy servers and VPN were still allowed to visit the sites to which access is restricted in the usual way by the decision of the Belarusian Ministry of Information. But experts say that if need be, Tor and proxies can be easily blocked.

For example, the conroversial yahooeu.by and yah.by which were still available in Belarus on February 25, today could only be accessed through the Tor-browser, proxy servers and VPN.
