Statkevich's wife: Mikola asks opposition to unite

Maryna Adamovich met with Mikola Statkevich on December 17 in prison where he passed an appeal to the leaders of the opposition through her.

“With regard to the elections (Statkevich had been proposed to become a presidential candidate. — Euroradio) Mikola thanks for the support. He says that any kind of support - no matter how it was expressed - is very important in his circumstances. However, Mikola asks the opposition once again to unite,” says Maryna Adamovich.

Mikola Statkevich passed though his wife some proposals to the opposition leaders. The proposals will be made public after reactions from the political forces.

On January 12, 2015, Mikola Statkevich will complete his three-year term in a high-security prison. Maryna Adamovich hopes it will not be extended.

Mikola Statkevich was a presidential candidate during he 2010 elections. He was arrested in the night of December 20, 2010 and charged with organizing mass riots in Minsk. The court found Statkevich guilty and sentenced him to six years in prison.
