Putin awards Belarusian ‘for Crimea’ (photo)
26-year-old Uladzimir Karatkevich was actively involved in takeovers of administrative buildings and Ukrainian military units in the spring of 2014.
Besides Vladimir Putin’s letter of commendation, the Belarusian received a medal from the Russian Ministry of Defence. Russian Novaya Gazeta got a list of Russians and foreigners secretly awarded by Putin. There were bikers, football fans, nationalists and people with previous convictions among the warded, the edition noted.
Another native of Belarus, Russian MP Frantz Klintsevich, was also awarded. He was number 1 on the list and his son Andrei, jewellery company owner and curator of the military patriotic programme Young Guard, is number 3.
