Potential candidate Ales Meh refuses to run for President

Kobryn activist Ales Meh has refused to take part in the presidential election this year. He is going to withdraw because the election ‘has been organized in an unfair way’, Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu’s deputy in the newly-created movement For Belarus’ Independence and Statehood claimed.

“We (Ales Meh’s initiative group – Euroradio) have been getting ready for the election gradually,” Ales Meh explained his decision to Euroradio. “We had a hope that the legislation would be changed. But the authorities have followed the old way of unfair elections. We will be urging all possible candidates to withdraw now. Those who are forced to vote should cross out all the names on the ballot paper.”

The House of Representatives supported the idea of the Central Election Committee to hold the presidential election on October 11.
