People queue near Minsk currency exchange offices starting from evening

People started queuing near foreign currency exchange offices late on the evening of December 18. The queues at the railway station were relatively small – about a few dozen people were waiting for foreign currency at midnight, Nasha Niva reports. If somebody sold dollars, the money was bought out instantly.

The dollar exchange rate went up by Br320 in only one day – from Br11140 to 11460. There were hardly any dollars or euro left in currency exchange offices. Only the money brought by other people was available, BelaPAN reports.

Meanwhile, the dollar exchange rate increased by only 20 roubles at the Belarusian Stock Exchange – Br10890. Belarus ‘will not follow Russia and will not devaluate the national rouble’, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said on Thursday.
