Movement For Freedom pushes for unity with authorities over independence

The independence of our country has gained special importance lately, senior deputy head of the movement Yuras Hubarevich told Euroradio. It was affected by the Ukrainian events in the first place.

Hubarevich: "Alyaksandr Lukashenka mentioned this issue a lot in his yesterday’s State of the Nation's address. He repeated the main theses used by the Belarusian opposition for the first time in 20 years. We think that this is a good change to consolidate the Belarusian society regardless of people’s political views.”

According to Hubarevich, a generation associating Belarus’ independence with the current national symbols has grown up over the last 20 years.  However, there are many people who understand the importance of historical symbols. They will welcome the former and the latter at the action, the politician said.

The Independence March is expected to start near the National Library. People are supposed to walk along Independence Avenue towards Independence Square where the speeches will be made.

The organizers are contacting other organizations like Belarusian Christian Democracy steering committee and the Party of Belarusian Popular Front.
