Maryna Adamovich: Statkevich support team to make general statement

The nominating group of the wannabe presidential candidate and political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich is not going to cease its activities. This is what his wife, Maryna Adamovich, said on Euroradio.

According to her, supporters of Mr Statkevich consider the CEC's refusal to register the nominating group and the decision of the Supreme Court, which refused to review the complaint against the refusal to be illegal. Ms Adamovich drew attention to the fact that according to the 68th article of the Electoral Code, a criminal record is not a ground for refusal of registration of the nominating group. "Registration of the nominating group and registration of candidates are two different things," she said.

According to the wife of the political prisoner, a support group of Mr Statkevich is not going to self-disband and will continue to fight for the release of all Belarusian political prisoners.

Euroradio asked whether supporters Mr Statkevich will support any other democratic candidates. To this Marina Adamovich said that after the weekend, there should be a joint statement of the group about it.

Incidentally, on July 23, Mr Statkevich had a two-hour meeting with his wife and gave an assessment of the current situation.

Ms Adamovich: "To a certain extent, he considers the participation of the democratic forces in this campaign in some other way to be unjustified, because, in his view, the sole purpose of participating in the elections is to highlight violations of the law and organize some protests against these illegal actions."

If the opposition is not going to resist the illegal actions of the authorities, its participation in the election campaign does not make sense.
