Makei wants to discuss EU-Belarus agreement

In Brussels, Uladzimir Makei has proposed to begin consultations on the basic agreement between Belarus and the European Union. On May 23, the Belarus Foreign Minister took part in the 7th annual meeting of EU and EaP Foreign Ministers.

According to the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, in his statement Makei spoke on the Belarus' steps towards further development of Eastern Partnership and relations with the EU. He urged to maintain the integrity of the initiative, to prevent the emergence of new dividing lines in the region. Belarusian FM expressed support for regional projects that contribute to the development of trade, increase transit opportunities, attracting investment, solve environmental and migration issues.

Uladzimir Makei met with leaders of the European institutions, EU and EaP Foreign Ministers. Among other things, he informed the European Commission about the measures that Belarus takes to ensure the safety of the construction site of the Belarusian NPP in Astravets district of the Hrodna region. Makei stressed that they comply with international standards and requirements.
