Kremlin: Putin’s words about “seizure of Kiev” were taken out of context

Barroso described his conversation with Putin at a meeting of the Council of the EU on August 30, Italian newspaper Repubblica reported. When the European politician motioned Russian troops invading Ukraine, the Russian President replied: “It is not a problem. I can seize Kiev in two week if necessary.”

Vladimir Putin’s words about ‘the seizure of Kiev’ quoted by Barroso were taken out of context and their sense was different, Putin’s assistant Yuri Ushakov claimed.

"It is inappropriate and beyond the diplomatic practice. It is not worth it for a serious political leader,” RIA Novosti quotes Ushakov.

“Russia has already unofficially threatened to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine several times if the resistance continues,” Ukrainian Minister of Defence Valeri Geletei said on September 1.
