Belarusians’ personal data saved forever (infographics)

The BHC has published an analysis of Belarusians’ personal information preserved by the state. Human rights defender Harry Pahanyaila was added to the list of travelled banned citizens by mistake and it took 3 months to correct it. It was also impossible to find out who was to blame for it.

It turned out that a large number of people had access to personal files and the names of people accessing the information were not recorded. It is impossible to demand to delete your data and some of the files are preserved forever.

The population registry created by the MIA is preserved for life. The information is sent to the archives when the person dies. Information about travel banned citizens is kept for 2 years after they were removed from the list.

The driving inspectorate preserves information about crimes for 100 years and your violations are preserved for 10 years. By the way, administrative responsibility expires in 12 months and there is no need to keep the data for 10 years.

See the infographics for types of personal information preserved by the state and the time it is preserved for.
