Belarusian National Platform on EaP may be dissolved

On May 5, Minsk hosted a round table on the topic 'Eastern Partnership on the eve of the Riga Summit: challenges and priorities for civil society in Belarus.' It ended with an unexpected proposal.

The head of the Council of the International Consortium EuroBelarus, Uladzimir Matskevich, proposed to dissolve the National Platform to clear it of organizations unable to work constructively. After that, said Matskevich, it is necessary to build a new alliance from scratch and on a new basis. According to Matskevich, only authorities communicate with Europe on behalf of Belarus. He demanded that the National Platform develop its own position on the presidential election campaign.

Director General of the International Consortium EuroBelarus Ulad Vyalichka analyzed six years of existence of the Eastern Partnership and the Belarusian National Platform. According to him, reported by eurobelarus.info, for Belarus this period resulted in lost and unfulfilled possibilities of reforming the country.

After discussion it was decided that in June there will be a conference of the National Platform. It will address the issue of the the National Platform's stand on presidential elections. There will also be discussed the expediency of the National Platform in its current form.
