Lukashenka meets with EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn

President Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn met in Minsk of April 17. Our country is interested in closer cooperation with the West in a number of spheres, the Belarusian leader said. Belarus is interested in close cooperation with the EU in technologies, the development of economic contacts and security, Lukashenka noted.

“I am interested in correcting and even building up our future policy as regards the European Union in the future,” Alyaksandr Lukashenka said describing the EU’s view of cooperation with Belarus.

Belarus thinks that the Eastern Partnership could change its format in the future, the state leader noted. “It would be better to change its format from standard politics to closer cooperation based on solving economic problems,” BELTA quotes Lukashenka.

The President discussed the Eurasian Economic Union with the European Commissioner. The EU should elaborate a few ways of cooperating with this union, Alyaksandr Lukashenka believes.

European Commissioner Commissioner Johannes Hahn has already met Belarusian foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei and representatives of the democratic forces in Minsk.
