1000-metre asteroid approaches Earth

NASA has reported a gigantic asteroid on a near-collision course with Earth. It is almost 1000 meters wide and 500 meters long. 2014-YB35 will approach our planet on Friday, March 27.

The space object is approaching the Earth at the speed of 37 thousand km/h. The closest distance to the Earth will total 4.5 million kilometers, specialists think.

Such asteroids approach the Earth once in 5 thousand years. If 2014-YB35 2014-YB35 collided with our planet, it would result in a global catastrophe.

NASA is working on the problem of organization of asteroid defense system. Astronauts are going to be sent to an asteroid for the first time in 2025. It will be a scientific mission aimed at studying the possibility of changing the course of space objects.
